GERALD "JERRY" BENNITT


Gerald "Jerry" Dale Bennitt, 70, of La Porte, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at La Porte Hospital and Health Services.  Jerry was born on June 22, 1949 to Dale and Edna (Froh) Bennitt, in La Porte. He graduated from Tri-State University in 1971 with a degree in Engineering. Jerry worked at several operating engineering jobs in the area, including United BlackTop Pavers, DLZ Engineering, and Dye Mechanical, until his retirement. He was most proud of the work that was done at Notre Dame, during his time at Dye Mechanical.  In June 1968, he married Sherrie Lynn Lenardson. In their union was born a son, Robert Dale Bennitt, who proceeded him in death in 1995; and a daughter, Jennifer Rae Diedrich.  On June 22, 2002 in La Porte, he married Bonnie Tyree who survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Jennifer (Kenneth) Diedrich of Virginia Beach, VA; stepsons, Jeff (Sarah) Tyree of Cincinnati, OH, and Joe (Stacey) Tyree of Manchester, CT; 4 grandchildren, Kenneth III, Cameron, Emilie and Lauren Diedrich, all of Virginia Beach, VA; step grandchildren, Lucy and Owen Tyree of Manchester, CT and Noah and Amelia Tyree of Cincinnati, OH.  He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert Bennitt; and stepson, Jonathan Tyree.  He was a member of Operating Engineers Union Local #150, Polish Falcons, and PNA, all of La Porte. Jerry enjoyed golfing, car racing, horse racing, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, and Chicago Black Hawks. He especially enjoyed socializing at the clubs with friends. 
Per Jerry's wishes, cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. A memorial is planned for family and friends on Saturday, August 24, 2019, from 2 - 6 pm at the Polish Falcons, 216 E. Lincolnway, La Porte. MARILYN "JEAN" FAIN


Marilyn "Jean" Fain, 78, of La Porte, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, August 16, 2019.  Jean was born on August 8, 1941 in Leiters Ford, IN, to O.C. Harold and Mary Magdalene (Davis) Hartle.  On January 15, 1972 in Door Village, IN, she married Wendell H. Fain who survives. Also surviving are her children, Debra (Brian) Sauers of La Porte, Delynn (Tom) Ervin of Fox Lake, WI, and Curtis (Kimi) Fain of Rolling Prairie; grandchildren, Brienne (Jeff) Robertson of Hudsonville, MI, Lauren Sauers of La Porte, Alexis Fain of Golden, CO, Amelia Sauers of La Porte, Mariah Fain of Rolling Prairie, Jack (Devlin) Ervin of Pensacola, FL, Kerigan Hundt of Rolling Prairie, and Zachary Fain of Rolling Prairie; great-grandchildren, Cole, Elena and Leah; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded by her parents; son, Mark Nalepka; sisters, Connie Dunlap and Beverly Osborn; and brother, Gerald "Bud" Hartle.  Jean worked as an office manager at Wampler's for many years. She was a member of the First Church of God and was a former member of the Pleasant Township Advisory Board. She enjoyed participating in a women's bowling league for over 30 years.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Jeff Zigler officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Heights Cemetery.  A time of visitation will be held from 4 - 7 pm on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 and from 10 am until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Memorial donations may be made to the First Church of God, 2020 E. Janice M. Samm, 68, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Wednesday,  August 14, 2019 at 12:20 pm in Franciscan Health - Michigan City.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN, with Rev. Dennis Blaney officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. LORA-LEE SNYDER

Lora-Lee Snyder, 86, of Fish Lake, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at her home, with her children at her side.  Lora-Lee was born in Chicago, IL on September 22, 1932 to Albert Frederick II and Elly Jean (Lunde) Nyland.  On November 15, 1952 in Chicago, she married Henry who preceded her in death. Surviving are her children, Dawn Cauffman of La Porte, Henry (Martha) Snyder of La Porte, Robert (Terri) Snyder of La Porte, Edward (Beth) Snyder of Fish Lake, Denise (Mike) Doig of Fish Lake, Debbie (Rodd) Bell of Mill Creek, Andy (Denise) Snyder of Rolling Prairie, Dorene (Paul) Lloyd of Mill Creek, and Diane (Rich) Cruz of Fish Lake; daughter-in-law, Jeanne Snyder of Milwaukee, WI; 23 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; sister, Norma (Charles) Kesling of Las Vegas, NV; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Stephen and Richard "Duke" Snyder; son-in-law, Doug Cauffman; and brother, Albert F. Nyland III.  Lora-Lee was a homemaker. She had a strong faith and was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church for the past 20 years. In her younger years, she taught pre-school Sunday School for over 20 years at St. John's Lutheran Church. Lora-Lee enjoyed attending her Monday and Thursday ladies' Bible studies, as well as her monthly senior luncheons with her church family. She also enjoyed participating in Christian women's luncheons and a Christian book club. Lora-Lee was a member of the Monday night ladies' study, know as the "Bible Babes". In addition to her church activities, she loved spending time with her family and friends, watching Nascar, reading, shopping, and playing cards.  Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.  A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 102 "G" Street, La Porte, with Pastor Dennis Meyer officiating.  A time of visitation will be held from 9 am until the time of the service on Saturday at the church. GEORGE ANDREW JOHNSON

 George Andrew Johnson, 94, of La Porte, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2019 at Golden Living Center La Porte.  George was born in Michigan City, IN, on July 26, 1925 to George and Celeste (Cashbaugh) Johnson. He proudly served in the US Air Force.  On July 17, 1948, he married Lois Marie Reed, who preceded him in death. Surviving are his children, Keith Johnson of Elkhart, Mark Johnson of Valparaiso, Kent Johnson of Valparaiso, and Kara Phillips of La Porte; 4 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and all siblings, Jeanette, Celeste "Ruth", Dick, and Lois Rae.  
George was a self-employed carpenter/builder all of his life. He was a veteran with the US Air Force. George was also a member of St. John's Church. He loved bowling, walking his dogs, fishing, and trying golf.  Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
