A New Carlisle man was lucky to walk away from the scene of an accident late last night.

Police were called out to the 7000 East block of county road 700 North in New Carlisle when a report came in of a single car accident.

Police say when they arrived on scene they found the vehicle unoccupied with both air bags deployed and heavy front end damage from where the vehicle had struck a tree.

According to the report, a call came in later from a man living on the 7500 North block of Catalpa Lane who told police that a family friend had walked to his home after being in an accident and that he was injured, bleeding from his head and going in and out of consciousness.

The 24-year-old man was treated at the man's home by medics and eventually transported to IU Health La Porte Hospital for further treatment.

No charges have been filed against the man at this time but charges are pending a toxicology report.
