A man is accused of posing as a law enforcement officer.

47 year old Jeremy Brenman is charged at the courthouse in Michigan City.

He allegedly claimed he was a deputy prosecutor from Chicago working on a

federal case and asked to see a deputy prosecutor from here.

Police say he also flashed a badge...

The deputy prosecutor...though....ran a background check to make sure he was

who he said he was....

Then asked him to leave when she learned he was an imposter.

LaPorte County Prosecutor John Lake says he's asked for an outside prosecutor to

handle the case....since his office was involved in the alleged crime.....

Brenman from Valparaiso may have been trying to argue recent charges

filed against him for allegedly violating a protective order in Michigan City.
