city called out on pumping

Recent pumping of groundwater by the city of La Porte could all come to a head

next week.

That's when state and even federal authorities could enter the public arena.

The pumping is for construction of a drainage basin along Boyd Boulevard.

But....there are allegations farmland is being flooded.....

And...the pumping might contain contaminated groundwater from some nearly industrial


County commissioner Rich Mrozinski is also a member of the county drainage board.

Recently....the drainage board issued a stop order on the project...but he says the city kept

pumping......and doesn't have the necessary permits.

The county drainage board meets again next Wednesday.

Officials say representatives from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management and the

Indiana Department of Natural Resources could be there.
