storms cause widespread outages

There were power outages today in La Porte and throughout the area.

According to NIPSCO......just over one thousand La Porte customers were still

without service early this afternoon.

NIPSCO says just over 300 customers in Michigan City were without power.

There were also a couple a hundred NIPSCO outages in Union Mills....and just over

600 in the Walkerton area.

The outages are due to storms that rolled earlier today.

NIPSCO spokesman Rick Calinski says the outages mostly from down trees and limbs

were throughout the entire service area.

He also said he could not estimate when service will be restored to everyone because of more

Storms predicted to roll in.....

There were fallen trees in the city and throughout the county.

Here in the city.....there was a tree down on a garage and car in the 800 block of

F St.

Other areas where trees and limbs were down included Kingsbury Ave....the 500 block of

G St....and Greenleaf and Illinois St.

Out in the county.....highway department superintendent Bob Young says there were

two dozen or more trees down and some roads blocked.
