motorcyclist hurt in garbage truck collision

A motorcyclist was taken by ambulance Thursday after colliding with a

garbage truck in La Porte.

Emergency responders about 8:20 a.m. were called to C and 7th streets.

Adam Brown of La Porte said he was passenger in the garbage truck when he saw the

''motorcyclist slammed into the side of us.''

''We slammed on the brakes, jumped out and called 911,'' he said.

Brown works for Lakeshore Recycling & Disposal, the contracted garbage hauler for the city.

He said the man on the motorcycle was bleeding from the head and coherent.

''It could have been a lot worse,'' Brown said.

Brown and the unidentified driver looked very shaken up and at one point were comforted by a


''I just saw a man slam into the side of our garbage truck. A truck is replaceable. Somebody's life isn't,''

he said.

Police said further details will be provided once the investigation of the accident is completed.
