In 20-years.....truck traffic in downtown LaPorte will nearly double without a bypass.

That's according to the people studying the need for a truck route around the


The vision is to remove a lot of the downtown becomes more

pedestrian friendly.....

And a better place to live.

Paul Vincent, a candidate for city council, is a civil engineer involved in constructing by passes elsewhere.

He says there's a lot involved but feels it can be done here....

Studies show more than three thousand vehicles every hour enter downtown from

the U.S 35 overpass.

14 percent of those vehicles are heavy trucks.
