LaPorte County and the city of LaPorte are moving ahead on a land swap. The reason is for county employees to have a place to park during the upcoming renovation of the U.S 35 overpass. Right now....close to 100 parking spots are underneath the overpass. But...those won't be available while the overpass is being restored. The county commissioners today approved a memorandum of understanding to engage in the property swap. Part of the deal allows employees to park on a city owned lot just east of where employees park right now.... County attorney Shaw Friedman says the temporary lot will be needed soon because preliminary work on the overpass is scheduled to begin next week. The deal also includes the city obtaining the Don George property from the county.
