A man was seriously hurt in a collision with a tree last night in LaPorte.

His dog died in the collision.

Police say 24-year old Caleb Pletcher was on Boyd Boulevard and ran

the red light at U.S 35.

He crossed all four lanes of the highway then hit the large tree.

LaPorte City Police Capt. Bill Degneegard says the driver was airlifted to

Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

According to the police report.....Pletcher said he had smoked marijuana

that night.

Degneegard says they're waiting on the results of a blood test to know for sure.....

Right now....Degneegard says there is no evidence of any alcohol consumption.

Pletcher is from Walkerton.

Police say the dog was riding in the front seat and dead at the scene
